21 July 2008

Being on vacation and not wanting to stay in Paris I called for help and got offered to stay in Burgundy with my cousine Christine at her friend's  (Aurélie) family house.
Wonderful place. A paradise for children !
And here we were, three pregnant women with 3 kids around us. I did not feel alone at all !

Radiohead's concert [Aug. 5th, 2008|03:09 pm]
14 June 2008

My friend Marie had a great idea in December: she thought of buying tickets to see Radiohead in the Nîmes Arena ! It's true that it was tempting: a great weekend in perspective and a mythical concert.
We bought tickets for Paris and for Nïmes.
And here we were that weekend, staying at Daniel's house, a friend of Anne and Gregory in the middle of the Cevennes.
It was so pleasant over there and Daniel is a character. Friend with everyone, so generous and open. 60 years old and surrounded by young and less young people, buying his furniture at the flea market and rebuilding houses to be able to host even more people in the mountains or anywhere !

The concert was amazing. We got a nice spot on the top of the Arena, facing the stage.
I think I was more touched by the concert in Bercy in Paris, but maybe that's because I hadn't listened to them in 2 years when I was in Paris and that things weren't so new in Nîmes.

But Radiohead played many differents songs in each concert, apart from the new ones from In Rainbows.

A friend of mine got better pictures from close. But here you can admire the stage and the location.

Alex' Wedding in New Orleans [Aug. 5th, 2008|03:01 pm]
10 May 2008

Alex and Angèle invited us to their wedding in New Orleans. We were so happy to go there ! We left Margot at Maura's house in Massachussets and flew to Louisiana for the weekend.

We were lucky to be hosted by a colleague of Angèle that lives in the Garden District of New Orleans. An amazing house where we had our private "corners" in the greatest decor (old books, old paintings, old shelves...and new air condition ! ).
It allowed us to see a little more of New Orleans than we would have if we had stayed in a hotel with the whole wedding gang (which I would have been happy to stay with ! Some old high school friends and newer friends of Alex that are a lot of fun).

The great thing was to see Alex kneeling in front of a Catholic Priest during the whole ceremony more or less...

Some pictures ! !

French Country side [Aug. 5th, 2008|02:55 pm]
25 April 2008

5 days before the written part of my competitive exam to become a primary school teacher I decided to spend a few days in the country side at my grandmothers's house that now belongs to my aunt Valentine and uncle Charles.
It's great to be able to see Margot enjoying the same things that I did when I was her age: the swings, the nature, the house, the cows, the farms....

The problem with having Margot growing up is that we only take pictures of her (as you can see on this journal). I guess that I am otherwise not someone who thinks of taking pictures most of the time. I tend to just enjoy where I am.
Well, but beside Margot you can see the French Country side and the typical houses of the Perche region.

Margot at the United Nations [Aug. 4th, 2008|06:54 pm]
March 2008

Of our trip to New York, you can mainly see pictures of us (Margot mostly) in Restaurants: this was one of my goal among seeing Friends, eat in our favorite restaurants: Himalaya Cafe, East for sushis etc....

I also of course wanted to have pictures of Margot at the UN.
We got lucky Rocky was there to open the Security Council for us after hours.
Margot also got to enjoy the North Delegate's lounge before being kicked out by Security who finally said: NO kids allowed. We were about to go anyway.

Who knows how long this building with stay in place? The Capital Master Plan was suppposed to start in 2007... We'll see if we can still visit Headquarters for our next visit !

It was so nice to have Margot spend time with her cousins. They were really good at teaching her English and playing with her.

And the happy Family for the American commercial

Plane to New York [Aug. 4th, 2008|06:24 pm]
20 March 2008

Our first visit back to the US !
It was not Margot's first flight, since she had flown to Slovenia already, but it was her longest plane trip. And she was awesome ! Took a nap during the meal and played nice the rest of the time.
However the jetlag was hard on her when she arrived !

Winter vacation in Morzine [Aug. 4th, 2008|06:09 pm]
February 2008

We got to try the luge with Margot for the first time. I cannot say that she was a big fan. Actually there was not enough snow, it was hard and therefore very fast.

It was better to simply play with snow and with her cousins. However, we had to take the lift up the mountain because there was no snow around the house. Too bad !

and the pleasure of taking pictures of our naked kids together in the bath tube as future blackmail against them.... Here under you can see Margot with Simon and Matthieu, the sons of my great cousins Benjamin and Christine.

January visits [Aug. 4th, 2008|05:56 pm]
January 2008

What's good in January is that you often see your French or less French friends from abroad coming for a new year's visit in Paris.
Here we got to see Andrew and Claire, Ludivine (here for her brother's wedding) and Ahmad. Kena lives in Paris, but I often have to get New York visits to see her !

Here are the pictures. You're not supposed to smile !

Le noël des sans famille [Dec. 27th, 2007|03:45 pm]
25 December 2007

As we grow older and have a boyfriend or a husband, or as our parents get divorced, Christmas becomes more and more complicated.
We end up celebrating Christmas a week early or two weeks late and we celebrate it at least four times  with different people.

In the end, we had our own Christmas Day free. No one to visit ! I knew of some friends who had to stay in Paris because of work, far away from their family and decided to invite people for a " people-without-family Christmas".

Surprisingly, many people were free for lunch on the 25th !

Derek cooked the usual Thanksgiving/Christmas American dinner (I bought a 4,4 kg turkey that was expiring on 25 December for 10 euros ! and it was very tasty !)

We had a wonderful time with everyone and exchanged surprise presents.

I felt really happy to be surrounded by quality people that make my life so great. We are so lucky !
Margot enjoyed herself, our little Santa, going from knees to knees and eating her bone !

It was one of the best Christmas celebration !

Christmas Ficus [Dec. 27th, 2007|03:39 pm]
21 December 2007

It was not too early to decorate a Christmas tree at home. Last year we had bought a Christmas tree inside a pot. It still lives on our balcony (we put it in a bigger pot), but due to many reasons under and above our control, it is kinda dry now.
So,  as we don't have much room in our apartment, and as Margot and the kitties team up to play with anything they can reach (like Christmas decoration), we decided to decorate our Ficus, which is already protected from Margot and the pussy cats.

We had a Christmas Ficus this year !

Our Christmas Stockings [Dec. 27th, 2007|03:32 pm]
23 december 2007

We all know the tradition of leaving stockings next to the Chimney, waiting for Santa to come down and fill them up with presents. In France, we don't really decorate our Chimneys with stockings  any more though.
But in the US, stockings are still a big deal: in Derek's family, beside the usual presents, each family member would get his personal stocking filled with anything funny or tasty and usually cheap  (since you've already made big presents !)

So Derek decided to make our own stockings this year. We bought some fabric and with a little help from Anne and her sewing machine, Derek made this:

Christmas eve [Dec. 27th, 2007|01:03 pm]
24 December 2007

For the second year in a raw, we celebrated Christmas with my brother Vincent's in laws. Jacqueline (Emilie's mother) and Didier always cook a delicious meal that never ends. But it's so tasty that you enjoy every BIT of it.
We had dessert at 1 am....

Margot enjoyed herself there a lot: the star of the Party she had the chance to meet Santa for the first time but she knew it was her uncle, quite right away....

a weekend in Karlsruhe, Germany [Dec. 27th, 2007|12:54 pm]
1st December 2007 - 2nd December 2007

It has become very easy to go to Germany since the opening in June this year of the TGV est, that links Paris to Strasbourg and then Germany until Stuttgart.
We decided to go and visit our friend Sebastian that lives in Karlsruhe. It cost us 160 euros round trip for Derek and I, leaving at an early time on both Saturday and Monday and with Margot's discount. Basically: it's expensive !

The train lasts 3 hours. Amazing !

So I am officially 3 hours away from decent Kebab eating and decent beer drinking.

The weather was crappy but we enjoyed the Christmas market anyway and the museums. Margot was at least as happy as we were to watch fish, frogs, iguanas and snakes at the vivarium of the natural history museum.

We enjoyed our glühwein and our Kebabs and played great games at Sebastian's.

A very good weekend indeed !

My birthday [Nov. 9th, 2007|11:42 am]
24 October 2007

I put a skirt on and did the same for Margot
She looked cute.

I tried to take pictures of both of us on that day but did not succeed. Here's the result:

Notice the cat on the left, also missed in the picture.

We celebrated quietly at home with my brother Vincent, his wife Emilie and my mother  around a Fondue Bourguignonne. We ate so much we did not try the delicious dessert that my mother had made (but I had it for breakfast the next day , hihi). I got presents too: a professional bottle opener from my bro and a professional massage of 1 hour and half to choose from a huge list by Derek.  SPOILED !

Well it was HAPPY 28TH BIRTHDAY TO ME !

Red Sox ! [Nov. 9th, 2007|11:04 am]
Sunday 21 October 2007

I believe...Not sure when Boston actually won.
I did not follow any of the games.

I knew they were in the world series but it went so fast that one morning Derek announced from his daily coffee-computer-reading arcticles-waking up ceremony : "Boston won !"

And so we put all the fan gear on Margot and took pictures to celebrate.
